GHS beats Raiders, Phantoms

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team had success on the field this past week, defeating both the Warwick Raiders and the Phoebus Phantoms.

The Dukes beat the Raiders last Thursday, 7-5, Gloucester led, 7-1, after four innings. Warwick gained momentum later in the game, scoring three runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh before Gloucester achieved the final out to end the game. Pitcher Austin Shackelford led the Dukes in hitting, putting up two hits in three at bats.

Gloucester defeated the Phantoms, 11-4, this past Tuesday. All but two members of Gloucester’s lineup earned hits in the game, with left fielder Hayden Simmons getting three hits in four at bats.

The Dukes’ overall record is currently 14-3, positioning them in third place in the Peninsula District.
