GERALD THOMPSON HUDGINS

Gerald Thompson Hudgins (aka Hammerhead) passed away on May 5, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on February 11, 1970. He had been a resident of Gloucester his whole life.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Martha and Bobby Hudgins, and his two brothers, W.T. and Greg Carmine. He is survived by his wife, Denise Hudgins; daughters, Lindsey, and Cierra Hudgins (and fiancé Jacob Perry); his three grandchildren, Jameson, Josiah, and Jayden; his beloved brother, Robbie Hudgins and his wife Jennifer; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

Gerald’s favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing with fishing being his most passionate hobby. He enjoyed being with his fishing buddies and all the antics they got up to. He knew about every captain and boat from Oregan Inlet, Wanchese, and Hatteras Island. He never met a stranger and could spark a conversation with anyone he met. If you ever needed a phone number, he could give it to you immediately. He was a walking phone book. He knew every number by heart. He was an extremely hard worker and loved his job. When he was told he would never hold a hammer again, it broke my heart how devastated he was. I cannot think of many lives he has not touched in one way or another. He lived his life to the fullest and took advantage of every moment he had.

His service will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church on May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. After the service, there will be a reception in the fellowship hall. His one request was that he did not want people to dress up for his service. He wanted Hammerhead shirts, jeans, and XTRATVF boots worn. Please do not go buy something you do not have, just dress casually. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061, or the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
