GEORGE ROBERT ‘BOB’ ROBBINS

George Robert “Bob” Robbins was born on September 28, 1936, in Greenville, S.C., and went to his heavenly home on March 28, 2024, surrounded by family at his home in Gloucester, Va., at the age of 87.

Bob was called to preach and pastored churches in S.C., N.C., and Va., retiring at 80 years old. He led missionary trips to Norway, Russia, and Ukraine. He graduated from Hampton High School in New Hampshire in 1954 and from Wesleyan College in 1972. He received his Master’s from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975.

Bob grew up in S.C. with his mother, Bobbi Elizabeth Baldwin Robbins, and his father, George Leroy Robbins; his brother, Roy, and his sister, Cathy.

As a young man, Bob actively enjoyed all sports–quarterback in football, basketball, baseball, golf, track and won the state championship high jump in New Hampshire. He also enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii. Returning home he was employed by Marriott Corporation in Washington, D.C. While he was there the Lord called him into ministry. He had a passion for preaching and teaching the Word. His greatest reward was to see others come to his Lord. He nearly always preached on Love.

Bob was also employed by Virginia Health Services for 15 years as Administrator of Walter Reed Convalescent Center and later the Newport in Newport News, Va. He considered this time as a mission field for the residents.

Bob is survived by Bonnie, his beloved wife of 38 years; his son, Joseph (Deborah); his daughter, Teresa; his stepdaughter, Wendy Hilliard (Jay); stepson, Bill Grimmer (Dave); five granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Roy (Susan); sister, Cathy Patton (Lewis), and four nephews and their families.

His homegoing service will be conducted by his son Joseph and will be for his family. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the home of Wendy and Jay Hilliard, 7229 Clements Ave., Gloucester, Va. 23061 from 2 until 4.

In memory of Bob, contributions may be made to New Freedom Worship Center, 7308 Woody Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061, or Riverside Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
