Flat Iron Crossroads has a busy weekend, with concerts scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday at the music venue at 7709 Flat Iron Road, Gloucester.
The Band from Misfit Beach will give a free concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Formed last year by a group of retired men who wanted to “hang out and play music just for the love of music,” The Band from Misfit Beach plays a wide variety of dance tunes across a range of genres, covering songs by The Beatles, B.B. King, Violent Femmes, The Doors, Van Morrison, Cab Calloway, Jimmy Buffett, and others.
The band is led by front man Buzz Willow, a semi-retired entrepreneur who owns a company that works on car washes across the East Coast. Other members are harmonica player Cris Dedmond, a retired dentist; bass player Brent Sparks, a retired engineer; lead guitar player Terry Fink, a retired advertising executive; and drummer Lee Wampler, a lifelong music professional and owner of a sound company.
The group gives a free concert once a month at a venue the members choose together. They also choose a nonprofit to support, in cooperation with the venue. All tips, donations, and profits from T-shirt sales will be given to Flat Iron Crossroads “to help it provide great music from all over the world to our community that we all share and love,” said the release.
Doors open at 2 p.m. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
