August brought two new members’ exhibits to the RAL Art Center, 19 Main Street in Kilmarnock—“Anything Water” and “Butterflies and Birds.” The 66 original artworks in “Anything Water” include paintings, photography, fiber art, glass and sculpture entered by member artists. The 25 original works in “Butterflies and Birds” includes drawings in addition to the same variety of works. The show’s judge, Michael Jones, artist and Art Center Manager for the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center, announced his choices for winners. He shared his comments at a public reception on Friday, Aug. 7 at the RAL Art Center. For first place in the exhibit “Anything Water,” Jones selected “Soft Waking on the North River,” an oil painting by Gayle Merrill, stating that “It is images like this one that inspire me to create.
