A young fawn is continuing her rehabilitation, and doing quite well, after finding her way to the Belroi home of Mike and Kim Rawlings.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, a fawn followed home the Rawlings’ chocolate lab, and then collapsed on their property, almost at the end of life, Kim Rawlings said.

The couple tried to get her to eat and drink from a bottle and then put her back into the woods. However, the baby deer came running back into the yard.

“I knew it was against the law to keep her, but it was obvious that she was without a mother,” she said. She contacted animal rehabilitator Stephanie Booker, who eventually took in the fawn. Booker told the couple that the deer was less than two weeks old at that time.

The fawn, which the Rawlings’ granddaughter Alexis dubbed Jazzy, stayed for a couple weeks with Booker at her Gloucester home. She’s since gone to another in-home animal rehabilitator in Williamsburg, where the fawn joined several others who ...
