Elderly residents oppose proposed cuts during town hall meeting

More than 100 people attended a town hall meeting Wednesday night at the T.C. Walker Education Center that was hosted by the chairs and vice chairs of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and the Gloucester School Board.

Many of those in attendance were elderly residents that regularly use Bay Transit and other Bay Aging services, and they pleaded with supervisors not to cut that agency’s funding in half.

According to the county administrator’s proposed budget, community and nonprofit organizations in the county, including Bay Aging, The Laurel Shelter, Gloucester Housing Partnership, Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic and the Boys & Girls Club of Gloucester, will see a 50 percent cut in what they are currently receiving from the county’s annual budget.
