Dukes secure first win

The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ basketball team earned its first win of the season during Monday night’s away game, defeating Warhill, 60-57.

The game was close from the start, with neither team gaining a lead of more than eight points during the first half. Gloucester closed out the half with a one-point lead. The Dukes found themselves down by one point at the end of the fourth quarter, but free throw shots allowed them to pull the win.

“Think it was electric,” said player Colt Kirby about the energy in the gym, “and the defense played a big part in hyping up our fans.”

“Feels good,” said player Alex VanVranken about Gloucester’s first win of the season. “Been a while since Gloucester got a W. It’s been two years actually. First win since before 2020.” VanVranken led the scoring for Gloucester, putting up 21 points.
