Dukes have winning week

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team picked up several wins this past week, advancing its record to 8-1-1.

Gloucester defeated the Woodside Wolverines, 7-3, last Thursday at home. The Dukes found themselves down, 2-0, in the fifth inning, but quickly got back in the game after a single by Grayson Shield led to a scoring rally. Gloucester scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, while already having two outs.

The Dukes scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gloucester only allowed one more run for the Wolverines.

Notable players for Thursday’s game were left fielder Hayden Simmons who had two hits in four at-bats and pitcher Chase Carson who struck out five batters.

Gloucester traveled to face Warhill Monday, defeating the Lions, 12-7. The Dukes celebrated a strong start, scoring six runs in the first inning.
