Dukes beat Hampton, fall to Denbigh

The Gloucester High School boys’ varsity volleyball team split a pair of matches this past week while on the road.
Gloucester defeated Hampton in four sets (25-17, Gloucester; 25-22, Hampton; 25-17, Gloucester; 25-18, Gloucester) last Thursday.

During the match, Grayson Shield had one ace, one kill, 13 assists, one dig and one block assist; Ryan Williams had three kills; Gavin Blanks had two aces, two kills, two assists and one block assist; Colter Callis had five aces, 10 kills, 13 assists and four digs; Bruce Miller had one kill; Tabb Hogge had one ace and four digs; Ryan McCullough had one ace and four digs; and Jesse Manheim had one dig.

The Dukes fell to Denbigh on Tuesday in five hard-fought sets (29-27, Denbigh; 25-14, Gloucester; 25-23, Denbigh; 25-22, Gloucester; 15-8, Denbigh).

Shield had 17 assists and three digs; Williams had two kills; Blanks had three aces, six kills, two assists, four digs and one solo block; Callis had eight kills, 11 assists, two digs and one solo block; Simmons had 12 kills, one dig and one solo block; Miller had four kills and one solo block; Hogge had one ace and eight digs; McCullough had three digs; and Bryce Fischer had one dig.

The Dukes return to their home court tonight, Thursday, Sept. 5, as they face-off with the Warwick Raiders. They will play immediately after the girls’ varsity volleyball match, which begins at 5 o’clock.
