Donald Purgold Davis, 82, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Heron Cove in Gloucester.
Don was born in Seaford, Virginia, on Oct. 15, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of Poquoson High School, a 1956 graduate of Randolph-Macon College and received his Master of Divinity from Duke University. He also received a Master of Education from the College of William and Mary. Don retired from the Methodist Ministry and from the Gloucester County School System after 25 years as a fourth grade teacher. He was also a member of the Stephen Ministry, the United Methodist Men, taught Sunday school and was a choir member for over 60 years. He was a longtime member of the Virginia Poultry Breeders Association and poultry breeder his entire life and an avid gardener.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Presson Davis; his parents, Leonard and Virginia Davis, and his sister, Dolores Hautz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Miriam Davis; his children, C. Keith Davis (Lisa) of Gloucester; Kevin Davis (Stephanie) of Mechanicsville, Jack Thomasson (KK) of Sandy, Utah; Barry Thomasson of Phoenix, Arizona; and Ame Gilbert (Stephen) of Beaverdam; grandchildren, Travis Davis (Adriana), Erin Fairbanks (Warren), Mary, Elizabeth, Paige and Leah Thomasson, Kayla, Collin and Lyndsey Gilbert, Abigail and Olivia Davis; great-grandchildren, Ethan Davis, Emma and Gavin Fairbanks and Landon Davis (due in March 2017).
The family received friends on Dec. 14 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester. Funeral service and burial in the church cemetery will be held on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford, Virginia. A luncheon reception will be held at 12 p.m. at Bellamy UMC in Gloucester following the funeral.
