Deltas sweep defending champs

The Deltaville Deltas won their fifth consecutive game last week, homering their way past the defending league champions, Richmond El Heaters, in a 5-2 win in Richmond on July 5.

Saturday’s game against the Richmond River Dogs was postponed due to rain, and will be made up during the final weekend in July.

Against the El Heaters, the long ball was the name of the game for both teams. Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, but Deltaville’s Ryan Pastirik fired back in the top of the second with a solo homer of his own to even the score.

The Heaters struck again in the third with another solo shot, making the score 2-1. That score held until the top of the fifth, when Spencer Crittenden knocked in a pair of runs on an RBI single to give Deltaville a 3-2 advantage.
