The Mathews Branch of the NAACP held its second annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday night at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins. The theme for the evening was “Leadership to Ensure Justice and Equality.”
Approximately 100 people turned out to hear Michael Davis. A 1979 graduate of Mathews High School, Davis is vice president of technology at the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae).
He began by talking how glad he was to be “home.” He stated how proud he was to be from Mathews.
Davis found that the theme of the evening is relevant to what is going on in local communities, places of business, throughout the United States, as well as globally. He said that he spends a lot of time talking to his teams at the workplace about the importance of leadership, using President Barack Obama as an example of what he calls great leadership.
