DAVID RAYE MOTLEY

David Raye Motley of Mathews, Va., and formerly of Miami, Fla., entered his eternal home in heaven on April 11, 2013.

He was born Dec. 8, 1955 to the late Sammy and Mary Motley. He was a 1973 graduate of Great Bridge High School.

David discovered his awesome talent and love of music as a teenager. He participated in the marching band and took concert piano for six years. He loved his music, playing the piano and singing with his wonderful alto voice, both lead and harmony. He was the keyboard player in the 1970s for the local band Straight Flush with his brothers.

David was a kind-hearted soul and left to cherish his memory a sister, Mary Walton of Mathews; brothers, Sam Motley (Mary Claire) of Ware Neck, Stephen Motley of Mathews, and Larry Motley of Chesapeake; nieces and nephews, Bill Shears, Torrie and Lexus Walton, Adrienne Klecka, Courtenay, Stephanie and Taylor Motley; great-nieces and -nephew, Ava Zuniga, Sophia and Joshua Ridenour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Joshua Motley.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. at 10132 Pond Ridge Lane in Gloucester, Va.
