Contraband uncovered during drug dog sweep at GHS

A drug sweep conducted by the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office and its canine, Rexi, at Gloucester High School Monday found a small amount of marijuana and 20 tablets of what is believed to be Adderall in a student’s vehicle.

GSO Chief Deputy Ryan Cookson said a vehicle was searched after the canine alerted on it in the student parking lot. He said six individual bags of marijuana were found along with 20 pills, a small bag of marijuana seeds, and a smoking device.

Cookson said a 17-year-old student was subsequently questioned and identified the pills as Adderall. Lab tests will be conducted to confirm the substance. Cookson said charges are pending against the student.

A further sweep of the parking lot and of 250 lockers inside the school found no contraband, Cookson said. He said the GSO will continue to work with local schools to conduct unannounced inspections of campuses using the canine. ...
