CircleUp to meet Sunday

CircleUp Middle Peninsula, a community action group, will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mathews Boys and Girls Club. Doors open at 2:30.

Sunday’s meeting will include an introductory presentation on The Center for African American Public Policy. Located at Norfolk State University, the center is a non-partisan think tank created and funded by the Virginia General Assembly, a CircleUp release stated. CAAMP’s mission is to influence the policymaking process on issues affecting African Americans and other people of color in the commonwealth through research and civic engagement.

Dr. Soji Akomolafe, executive director of the center and chair of NSU’s Department of Political Science, and Dr. Cassandra L. Newby-Alexander, author and dean of NSU’s College of Liberal Arts, will elaborate on CAAMP’s methods and goals in a 45-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer period.
