Charles Dunn Jr., 88, of Gloucester, joined his wife, Phyllis, in heaven on Sept. 2, 2021. They were married 54 years until her passing in 2008.

Charles was born Sept. 26, 1932 to Charles and Roxie Dunn in Durham, North Carolina, but spent most of his years in Newport News and Gloucester. He was a devoted member of Reeds- wood Christian Church, especially well-loved by the children. He was a skilled carpenter and cabinet-maker, helping the church with building projects and often building custom furniture for his family. Charles, or PaPa as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren called him, was hardworking, fun-loving, and quick-witted. He loved boating and the beach, NASCAR, and driving too fast!

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis; his son, Mark; his daughter-in-law, Trudy; his parents, Charles Sr. and Roxie; his sister, Earlene Just, and his brother-in-law, Allan Just. He is survived by his sons, Charlie (Rose), Robert (Sharon), and Phillip. PaPa doted on his 11 grandchildren, Courtney, Amie, Melanie, Kristina, Laura, Jenifer, Lindsey, Christopher, Phillip, Amy, and Ron; his 20 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived by his dearest friend and companion, Fran Pritchard, whose care and love for him have been a blessing for the whole family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Reedswood Christian Church (7694 Meredith Drive Gloucester), at 11 a.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to Reedswood Christian Church to help give the children new playground equipment.

Arrangements are being made by Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. (
