Gloucester Chess Club will hold a charity chess tournament, open to all ages and skill levels, on Thursday, Jan. 29, at Mobjack Tavern, 5036 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes. Entry will be a $10 donation that competitors will play to win for one of the following organizations: Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic, Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, or Shop with a Cop. All competitors will also be entered into a drawing to win Mobjack Tavern gift cards. The tournament format will be four rounds of timed games using the free Chess Clock app. Chess Club will be providing extra chess sets, but asks that players bring their own, if possible. Check in will begin at 5:30 p.m. with games beginning at 6, and the winner will be announced at 8:30.
