Car strikes mailboxes, structure in Dixie

A Port Haywood woman was arrested on Monday, April 15, after allegedly destroying three mailboxes and damaging a structure with her vehicle in the Dixie area of Mathews County.

According to Trooper Bryan Wintermantel of the Virginia State Police, the woman was driving a 2010 Cadillac Escalade at around 9:40 a.m. when she allegedly struck three mailboxes on Dixie Drive and ran into a building owned by Hunter’s Contracting on Twigg Ferry Road. She then is alleged to have backed out and continued over the bridge into Middlesex County, where she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Wintermantel said the charges depend on her bloodwork, which will take about six weeks to process.

The driver was taken to the hospital, where she was released on a summons and was treated for facial lacerations. She also underwent additional tests.
