Captain Speth to speak later this month about Susan Constant

Captain Eric Speth of Cobbs Creek, will speak later this month in a program on the re-created 17th century ship Susan Constant, of which he serves as captain, in a presentation co-sponsored by the Mathews County Historical Society and Mathews Memorial Library.
The program, “Research, Design and Construction of the Re-created 17th-century Ship Susan Constant” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Mathews Memorial Library.
Speth is captain of the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery and Director of Maritime Operations for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. Historically accurate and fully operable re-creations, these three vessels serve as exhibits at Jamestown Settlement Museum and host maritime outreach educational programs for students and visitors.
Speth studied at Stony Brook University and Westlawn Institute of Maritime Technology and holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license for 1,600-ton Ocean, Motor and Sail. He also was coordinator of Maritime History at Historic St. Mary’s City,...
