BOAT Church ‘goes with the flow’

A unique church based out of Mathews County has established quite a following.

The BOAT Church, led by Daniel and Katie Howlett, meets every other weekend from the spring until the fall on or near the water.

The vision of the church came after the couple attended different churches around the county for a number of years. “We enjoyed hearing the Word from different leaders in their own unique ways of leading,” Katie said.

Last spring, Daniel went to a tent revival at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, where he heard friend and local pastor Patrick Billups speaking on Ezekiel 37:1-14. “It spoke on callings and urged everyone to follow their calling,” she said. 

“Daniel came home, we sat down, and came up with the order for how a service would be conducted, and created BOAT Church within the week,” Katie said. Its first service took place on Father’s Day, 2018.
