Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Eta Chapter, will host its annual Black History Celebration and Black Men Cooking Event on Saturday, Feb. 15. The program will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena.

The purpose of the Black Men Cooking is to focus on the men’s preparation of tasty dishes as well as the celebration of African American history, a release stated. With the proceeds, the Epsilon Eta Chapter will be able to provide scholarships to deserving young women and men. There will be approximately 25 chefs participating this year, which is the 13th year for the event.
This year’s special guest is Tony Brothers. Brothers is an American professional basketball referee who works in the National Basketball Association. He has been a referee in the NBA since the 1994-95 season. Now in his 31st year, Brothers has officiated 1,800 regular season games, 200 playoff games and 17 NBA Finals games. He officiated the 2009 NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona. In a survey of NBA players, Brothers was voted one of the favorite referees. He wears the uniform number 25. He has a restaurant in Norfolk called “Brothers.”
