At the end of Milby Farm Road in Shacklefords you find Milby Farm, a spread of 300 acres. It’s a place you don’t want to miss when visitation is open. Michael Gross, a retired veterinarian of Yorktown, bought this property about six years ago. Today he and Melanie Storrs are running the farm together. Melanie, a native of Philadelphia, had lived in Hawaii before she moved to Gloucester over 20 years ago. The farm began making jams, jellies and pickles from its produce and items found across the acres. In just three years Melanie was producing jellies from wildlife flowers such as violets, dandelions, clovers, goldenrod … and the list goes on. “The violet and dandelion jelly has become one of our most popular jellies.” Fruit jellies are made from wild blackberries, native elderberries, muscadine grapes, plums and pawpaw “all found here on the farm.
