Several Baystars youth soccer teams celebrated winning weekends.
Hurricanes
The U10 Hurricanes defeated the VA Rush U11 Vipers, 5-1, Saturday at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
Gabe Franklin scored first for the Hurricanes on a corner kick by Declan Long. Theo Collins nailed a penalty kick shot, advancing the score, 2-0. A last-second goal by Long, assisted by Jep Doley, brought the score up to 3-1 at halftime. Spencer Leigh served as goalkeeper during the first half.
The Vipers tried to even the tally in the second half by taking five shots on goalkeeper Franklin, who saved every shot. Jack Sheridan brought the score to 4-1 through a rebound he made from a corner kick by Collins. Doley scored during the final seconds of the match with an assist by Brody Meadows. Defenders Braiden Fry, Ryder Jarrell and Declan McDonough helped secure the win.
This win brings the Hurricanes’ record to 4-0 for the spring season. The team will play again Saturday and Sunday at Woodville Park, beginning at noon both days.
Threshers
The U13 Threshers celebrated two wins over the weekend. The Threshers defeated the Suffolk Lightning, 3-2, on Saturday. Seth England, Tristen Blaney and Chase Newton all scored for the Threshers. Blaney recorded an assist for Newton’s goal.
The Threshers also defeated Suffolk Thunder, 5-2, Sunday. England and Frank Enciso each scored twice, while Newton scored once. Newton, Blaney, England and Enciso all recorded assists during the match. Goalie Ian Freeman recorded a save on a penalty kick.
The defense for the Threshers was controlled by Logan Stenersen, Matthew Noehl, Roger Green and Diego Zeledon.
Tigersharks
The U11 Tigersharks also earned another win under its belt by defeating the Beach FC Rizzlers, 3-1, over the weekend at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
Whitecaps
In a close match, the U11 Whitecaps defeated the Beach FC PreNPL Villareal, 4-3, on Sunday in Virginia Beach. The match’s first half was evenly played by both teams. Colton Bergstrom of the Whitecaps was the first to score. Villareal scored just before halftime to tie the game. Triffon Luechauer recorded four saves in the first half for the Whitecaps.
Villareal carried momentum into the second half, talking a 2-1 lead. Bergstrom then added two additional goals to complete his hat trick and reclaim the lead for the Whitecaps. Villareal scored only once more.
Donnie Wolford also contributed offensively, adding a goal during the second half of the match. Luechauer added two more saves in the second half, preserving the narrow victory. Wolford earned the team’s “Hungry Hippo” award following the game.
With the win, the Whitecaps continue to hold the top spot in the National Premier League division standings for the spring season.
