The Bay School’s Raku Firing Fundraiser & Pottery Throwdown will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the gallery on Main Street in Mathews.
Initially planned for April 12, the event was rained out and had to be rescheduled.
Participants will learn the ancient art of raku firing with a modern twist and/or compete in wheel-throwing challenges to win prizes and bragging rights.
Pottery from Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild will be for sale, and refreshments will be available.
The cost is $30 to choose a pot, glaze it with the school’s glazes, and watch it be fire to 1,800 degrees in less than an hour.
Potters may bring their own pots or small sculptural pieces to glaze and fire for $15. For $10, participants can paint a pot with acrylic paint, with no firing needed. The pottery throwdown is $10 per competitor.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or online in advance at bayschool-arts.com/pages/raku.
