Barber print donated to G.I. Museum

Nationally acclaimed maritime artist John Morton Barber recently donated a print of his original painting “Crab Potting” to the Gwynn’s Island Museum in Mathews.

The print will be on display during the museum’s opening weekend, Friday through Sunday, April 5-7, and every weekend through October. Hours are 1-5 p.m.

The painting shows Curtis Forrest and his nephew William picking up pots on their deadrise workboat in Milford Haven. The print was given in memory of Barber’s friend Joan Hooper, mother of Billy Hooper of Mathews. Joan Hooper lived on Gwynn’s Island for a long time and loved the Chesapeake Bay, stated a press release.

The print joins Barber’s “Reflections–Gwynn’s Island” and “Foggy Run” on the museum walls, said the release, adding that the scenes “are very important to our maritime history.”
