Friends of Machicomoco State Park is partnering with the NASA Skywatchers to put on the first Astronomy in the Park event at Machicomoco State Park on Saturday, from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
The group will be on hand to discuss and explore the night sky with visitors to the Hayes park. Visitors will be able to view various celestial bodies including Mars through telescopes provided by the Skywatchers.
The event area will be a three-minute walk down a lit trail from the Trailhead Parking area at the park. Event signs will direct park visitors from the park’s entry o the parking area and then down the lit trail. The $5 per vehicle park entry fee can be paid at the self-pay station located at the entrance of the park. The event is weather dependent.
