Machicomoco State Park’s Astronomy in the Park October event, which had been canceled due to rain, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Hayes park.
The Friends of Machicomoco State Park has partnered with the NASA Skywatchers for the event, which starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 9.
The Skywatchers, based out of NASA Langley, will be on hand to discuss and explore the night sky with park visitors. “This is an incredible opportunity for families to learn about astronomy from experienced amateur astronomers,” said Dave Harlan with the Friends Group.
Visitors should be able to view various celestial bodies including Comet Lemmon and Saturn through telescopes provided by the Skywatchers club. During the event, visitors were able to see several galaxies with the club’s telescope and view detailed images of the sky using advanced astrophotography equipment.
