Answer to a prayer: Harcum church donates its property to BridgePoint

A historic Gloucester church has new owners. The trustees of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Harcum, voted Feb. 21 to dissolve as a church and then gifted its multimillion dollar building and property to BridgePoint Church, a congregation of about 300 people that has been meeting regularly at the Gloucester Moose Lodge since its inception in 2010.

BridgePoint will hold its first service at the former Ebenezer Baptist Church Easter Sunday.

Eric Ashley, the founding and lead pastor of BridgePoint, said he still feels like he is “in a dream” about the fact that his church, which has not had a permanent home, is now the owner of a 42,000 square foot structure and the 26 acres that surround it.

“We didn’t know about (Ebenezer) at all at the time we started praying (for a permanent space),” Ashley said. “Over the years, we have looked at other permanent locations or somewhere we could operate out of seven days a week.”
