Anglers finding success at Beaverdam

Anglers have been catching a variety of fish in recent days at Beaverdam Reservoir, park ranger Elizabeth Keefer reported Monday.

From the floating pier, anglers have caught bluegill with nightcrawlers, several black crappie using minnow and largemouth bass using crankbait. From boats, anglers have had success fishing stump beds, catching bass weighing over four pounds with spinnerbait.

One angler reported catching 10 crappie from using minnows from one of the nature trail docks. Minnows have also been used to catch perch, bass and pickerel from both shore and boats. Another angler hooked three bass, each weighing three or more pounds fishing a stump bed using crankbait.

Beaverdam Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. through Labor Day. The park has watercraft for rent, sells bait and concessions. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
