Anglers catching from shore, boats at Beaverdam Park

Anglers are catching fish from shore and from boats in recent days at Beaverdam Park Reservoir, according to a report from Park Ranger Elizabeth Keefer.

One angler, fishing from a boat, caught a 3-pound largemouth bass, along with a weight and length citation black crappie weighing 2.94 pounds at 16 and 1/8 inches in length, using jerk bait. One of the park’s regular fly fishermen caught a bass from shore near the Ranger Station at the main entrance.

Another angler, casting from a kayak caught several crappie between 13 and 14 inches in length, using jigs. And another one of the regulars caught chain pickerel, bass and crappie from his boat, also using jigs.

Beaverdam Park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Feb. 28. In March, the hours expand to 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The park rents watercraft, sells bait and concessions. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
