Since 1991, Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory has held a Candlelight Memorial Service for the community each December. The funeral home, which is located in the Gloucester Court House area, will be celebrating the 35th year of this tradition on Sunday, Dec. 7, beginning at 2 p.m.
Frances Andrews, matriarch of the Andrews family, began the tradition because she wanted to give families a way to come together to celebrate the lives of family members who have passed away.
Over the past three decades, the family and staff of Andrews Funeral Home have hosted a special service where a short message of hope is delivered by one of the pastors in the community, candles are lit by families to honor their loved ones and ornaments are placed on the Christmas tree. Refreshments are then enjoyed by guests as they talk with others experiencing the same sadness.
