EARL DAVID MOORE

Earl David Moore, age 72, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 24, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, Earl was the son of Earl Theodore Moore and Arline Murray Moore. The family soon moved to New Jersey, where he was raised. He graduated from Park Ridge High School before earning an associate’s degree from Saint Leo University.

Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, specializing in the Watercraft field. His military career took him to Germany, Panama, and numerous duty stations throughout the United States. While stationed at Fort Eustis, he met the love of his life, Linda. They were married in 1993 and built a life centered on love, laughter, and family. Their greatest blessing came in 1996 with the birth of their son, David Carroll Moore.

Following his retirement from the Army, Earl and his family made Gloucester their permanent home, where they built their dream home. Earl embraced every aspect of family life and especially treasured his role as David’s biggest supporter. Whether driving him to school, practices, games, or other activities, Earl never missed an opportunity to be there for his son.

Those who knew Earl knew there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. Having worked a variety of jobs before entering the Army, he developed a remarkable ability to diagnose problems and repair almost anything. He was also a talented woodworker who found great satisfaction in creating beautiful, practical pieces with his own hands. Earl loved antiquing, browsing flea markets, and searching for hidden treasures and the perfect bargain. He took immense pride in his yard and flower gardens, tending them with the same care and attention he gave everything else in his life. A weed rarely stood a chance. He was also a lifelong fan of rock and roll from the 1960s and 1970s and amazed family and friends with his ability to identify almost any song and artist after hearing just a few notes.

Above all, Earl will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dependability, generous heart, and deep love for his family. He was happiest spending time with Linda and David, and the life they built together was his greatest accomplishment.

Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda Justis Moore; his son, David Carroll Moore, both of Gloucester; his sister, Arline Moore of Columbus, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Diane Gladstone of Silver Beach, Virginia, and many dear friends who will greatly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Peter Moore of Virginia and Robert Moore of New York; and his brother-in-law, Ed Gladstone of Silver Beach.

In accordance with Earl’s wishes, private services will be held.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary physicians, nurses, and staff of the Riverside Gloucester Cancer Center, especially Dr. Khalil, Tonya, Mary, Mallory, Tina, Myrtle, Rachel, David, Christine, and the many others who cared for Earl throughout his illness. They also wish to thank the nurses on the second floor of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for their exceptional compassion and kindness. The care Earl received from both the Cancer Center and the hospital staff was truly extraordinary, and they treated him not simply as a patient but as a member of their own family.

In memory of Earl, contributions may be made to the Riverside Foundation (Riverside Cancer Care Funds), 12420 Warwick Boulevard, Building 6, Suite 6E, Newport News, Va. 23606.
