The Bay School Community Arts Center, Mathews, has a wide range of classes scheduled for the first two weeks of February, including a monthlong class on working with clay. Intro to Hand Building with instructor Linda Brent will teach students how to create different types of pots and plates from clay. It will be held in four sessions, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays from Feb. 2-23. The class is for ages 18 and older. The cost is $210. Also on Feb. 2, Mary Swezey of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is offering a class on Bookplates and Bookmarks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will create their own bookplate and bookmark designs on paper, then transfer them to soft printmaking blocks to be carved out. They will then ink the blocks and print their designs on paper and cardstock. The class is for age 18 and older; the cost is $75.
