Two Gloucester men have been charged in connection with what is believed to be the murder of 36-year-old Kayron Tyrone Long of the 8600 block of Back Creek Road in Ware Neck, while three others are in custody on related incidents, the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
Winfrey Carlton Henry Jr., 24, has been charged with murder in the second degree, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and concealment of a dead body. Edward Lee Hodges, 33, meanwhile, faces charges of concealment of a dead body and accessory to a felony after the fact.
According to Capt. J.L. Sharp of the GCSO, during the overnight hours of Saturday, Feb. 11 and into the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 12, deputies received calls in reference to several related incidents involving two Gloucester County residents.
Suspects engaged the victims multiple times at different locations culminating in the home invasion of a residence located in the 8600 block of Back Creek Road. At this scene, armed suspects forced entry into the victims’ occupied home, Sharp said.
The suspect vehicle returned to the scene while deputies were in the area. Deputies stopped the vehicle in question and identified three suspects: Kathryn Elizabeth Wright, David Isiah Ford, and a 17-year-old male juvenile. Multiple firearms were found in the vehicle and all three suspects were arrested.
This investigation also revealed that Kayron Tyrone Long was missing from the victim’s home at the 8600 block of Back Creek Road.
Upon further investigation, which included numerous interviews and several search warrants conducted by the Criminal Investigations Division, it was discovered that the victims of the home invasion—Edward Lee Hodges and Winfrey Carlton Henry Jr.—were involved in the disappearance of Long. Evidence revealed that Long was the victim of a homicide inside of the same residence on the morning of Friday, Feb. 10. On Sunday evening, GCSO investigators, with assistance from the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, discovered Long’s buried body in the 2900 block of Carmines Island Road in Wicomico. A positive identification was confirmed Monday afternoon following an investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Capt. Sharp said.
These related incidences are considered active investigations, Sharp said, and no further information was released at that time.
