3 injured in Old Hickory Fork Road fire

A structure fire caused damage to a home on Old Hickory Fork Road in Hayes on Tuesday afternoon, also causing injuries to three individuals, according to a spokesperson from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

The fire started in the kitchen and was confined to that room and its contents. It was quickly brought under control by the actions of the AVFR and Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue personnel who responded to the call.

Two engines, a rescue vehicle and medic unit were sent from Abingdon, and a tanker, engine and medic unit came from GVFR.

First responders on the scene indicated that there were people still in the building. Two were taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, while a third was flown via Nightingale, to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. York County responded to the scene to set up a landing area at the old Page Middle School site.

There are currently no updates to the conditions of those receiving medical help.
