York River Fitness, LLC, opened for business recently at Shops at York River on Route 17, Hayes.

Owner Tracy Washington said she saw good potential in the center, which previously was under other ownership and another name. To manage the center, Washington brought in her cousins, Jimmy and Kristi Newman.

Jimmy Newman is general manager, while Kristi is marketing director. She’ll have more to market soon, as Washington said plans are to expand from 1,400 square feet to 4,000 square feet in the next few months.

With the larger space, Washington said, they plan to begin offering group fitness classes, add more weights and exercise machines, and expand the center’s sales of sports and nutrition supplements. The center already offers members 24/7 access to use elliptical machines, treadmills, bikes, leg press machines and free weights.
