The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society will be looking for a new leader, as its current executive director, Amanda Wroten, told her board of directors Monday she would be resigning to take the position of development director with the Colonial Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Wroten said Wednesday morning she took the job with the GMHS in April with the intention of staying with the organization for the rest of her career.

However, since she left the BSA in 2008, she has regretted the decision, as she said her "heart and soul" is with the scouts. She said she even discussed her reluctance to leave the Boy Scouts during her interview with the GMHS.

Wroten who resides in Newport News, said she was approached recently by a BSA representative and was offered the development director position. "It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me," she said.

Wroten emphasized that her decision to leave the GMHS comes from nothing other than her passion to return to the BSA.
