A Williamsburg man was arrested Monday morning following a brief pursuit in Gloucester, according to the Virginia State Police.
On June 23, VSP responded to a call by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office to assist in arresting a fleeing suspect. Initially, the GSO had responded to a domestic violence call at a local residence where a male suspect reportedly resisted arrest and assault one of the deputies attempting to take him into custody, fleeing the residence in a 2018 Nissan Rogue.
After that, a pursuit was initiated onto Route 17. During the pursuit, VSP attempted several times to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, making several attempts to strike the trooper’s vehicles. The pursuit concluded when the 36-year-old suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 17 striking a 2021 GMC Sierra. After crashing the vehicle, the suspect was successfully arrested without incident. No troopers were injured during the pursuit or arrest.
Both the suspect and the driver of the Sierra were taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was charged with felony elude, assault and battery (2x), assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while revoked DUI-related, driving with interlock, and various traffic infractions stemming from the pursuit.
