WILLIAM CREIGHTON WALKER JR.

William “Bill” Creighton Walker Jr., age 83, of Dutton, died on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by love. Bill was born on July 1, 1942 to the late Agnes Coyne Walker and William C. Walker Sr. in Clarksburg, West Virginia. At the start of his education, Bill attended Parochial Schools, then Huntington College for his undergrad and University of Alabama (GO BAMA) for graduate school, and continued to support and love Alabama Football. He even taught at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) for two years. Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He settled into his career handling sales communications to Verizon Corporate and AT&T. Upon retirement, Bill became a very busy guy in Gloucester. He loved it here and believed with his whole heart in the importance of community involvement and good care for the homeless animals. Bill was involved in many things; he was chairman of the Gloucester Library Board, a member of the Main Street Preservation Trust, a member of the Gloucester Wetlands Board for 20 years, a member of the Gloucester Master Gardeners, a member of the Middle Peninsula Naturalists, and a member of the Northern Neck Tree Stewards. Bill was also a volunteer and supporter of the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Gloucester Christmas Holiday Parade, and a member of the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. Bill would like to be remembered as kind, giving, and a proud American. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Clarke (David); his “almost brother,” John S. “Jack” Sherry (Joan) and his favorite in-laws, Dorothy and Milton Early, with whom he had “son status.” William is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl Early Walker; his sons, Edward Todd St. Louis and Matthew Miller St. Louis (Grace), and his grandchildren, Julienne, Scarlett, and Sunny. He is also survived by his beloved pets who accompanied him during his illness, his canines Guppy and “Miss Boo,” and kitties Marmalade and Whiskers, all of whom are equally important. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 6-7 p.m. The graveside service will be held at Olive Branch Church UMC Cemetery, 10833 Harcum Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Doug Nagel.
