William Avalon Simmons, Jr., age 74, of Hayes, died at his home Feb. 2, 2019.

William was a 1962 graduate of Gloucester High School and 1967 graduate of the Apprentice School, Newport News Shipyard, as a machinist. Following retirement from the shipyard, he worked on the water with his brothers. Everyone he met was a friend, and he will be greatly missed. Parents William Avalon and Martha Ann Rowe Simmons preceded him in death.

Survivors include brothers, Roger Clayton Simmons and Christian Brent Simmons.

A graveside service conducted by the Rev. Bill West, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019. in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
