Willard R. Smith, age 91, of Gloucester, passed away in his home on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester, and a retired school teacher, football coach and principal of the public school system, and an avid Washington Redskins fan.
He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Gurley Smith.
He is survived by his children, Kathryn S. Bailie, Sidney S. Smith, Valerie J. Smith and Glenda L. Ritter; four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Salem United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rita Staul. Interment was in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
