Mathews Outdoor Club, in collaboration with the Mathews Land Conservancy, will host the Wharf to Wharf Swim (W2W) on Saturday, Aug. 16, beginning at 10 a.m., at Williams Wharf on the East River in Mathews.
This one-mile, open-water swim honors the memory of L. Wayne Hudgins, who was a longtime board member of the Mathews Land Conservancy.
The morning’s activities will begin with a one-mile swim across the East River, followed by music, food and refreshments under the Williams Wharf pavilion. Members of the USCG Milford Haven, USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 66 and local paddlers will provide water safety support.
A $50 registration fee grants all participants a custom beach towel and entry to post-race food and fun. Proceeds benefit outdoor recreation projects in the region.
“Whether you’re an experience swimmer or just looking for a fun challenge, W2W is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the river, the outdoors and our community,” said MOC president Christine Johnson.
