Wetlands board approves 6 requests

The Gloucester County Wetlands Board approved six requests during its Aug. 12 meeting, which was held in the colonial courthouse.

Travis Camechis requested permission to construct a 30-foot groin and an 80-foot by 2-foot semicircle bulkhead 10 feet on the downriver side of Leigh Drive. The board approved the request by a 4-3 margin.

James Gunn requested the approval of a large project on Fox Creek. The project will see the construction of several bulkheads totaling 503 feet and a total of 80 feet of riprap sill installation. Much of the riprap will be installed to encourage growth of wetland vegetation. The project, located on Allmondsville Road, was approved unanimously.

Benjamin Good of Denton Lane sought approval to construct and install 140 feet of riprap revetment with one stone core and class-two armor stones. The project will include two 48-foot jetties. The board voted unanimously to approve the project.

William and Jennifer Gardner requested authorization to repair 120 feet of riprap and add 65 feet of riprap with class-one core and class-two armor stones. The unanimously approved project will take place along Bonniville Road.

Pleasant Goode of Weaver Lane sought approval to make repairs to 20 feet of failing vinyl bulkhead and to backfill the eroded area behind it. The project will also include the installation of five-foot-high class-two riprap against a six-foot-tall bulkhead. The project was approved unanimously.

Last, Ruth Hill requested approval to install a living shoreline on Green Cove Lane. The living shoreline will have 445 feet of stone sill, 1,000 cubic yards of sand nourishment, 18 feet of spartina plantings, and alterniflora for erosion control. The board unanimously approved the project, with the condition that a new plan view and cross section drawing depicting a crest-shaped turn on the downstream side be made.

Following the meeting of the Wetlands Board, board members reconvened as the Chesapeake Bay Preservation and Erosion Commission to hear a request from Patrick Parizo. Parizo sought authorization for a 28-foot by 76-foot modular home and 10-foot by 20-foot deck with steps on a parcel on Jenkins Neck Road. Along with the home, 3,381 square feet of impervious surface will also be part of the project.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the project with several conditions. Parizo must install gutters and two rain barrels at the southern corners of the dwelling to capture guttered rain water and prevent runoff. He must also install two planting units within the 100-foot buffer area between the site and the protected resource areas.
