West records 100th RBI; slugger meets and passes the mark vs. Hampton

Gloucester High School varsity softball player Emma West collected the 100th RBI of her career in the final games of the regular season. West, a senior, hit a towering two-run homer and added a triple against Phoebus on May 9 for RBIs 98 and 99.

The Dukes then played Hampton on May 16 and West secured RBI 100 and later RBI 103 on two bases-loaded walks and laced a ground ball past the third baseman for a four-RBI day.

Prior to post-season play, West had 37 RBIs on the season and 11 extra base hits, five of which have come by the long ball. West had a season-high nine RBIs against Denbigh in April when she hit a grand slam, a three-run homer and doubled in two runs.

“Coach Jason Burns and I are so proud of Emma and her accomplishments. Emma is a fantastic young lady and has worked very hard since the start of her freshman year,” said GHS head coach Red Lindsay.  ...
