West Point to unveil first mural and LOVEworks sign

The Town of West Point will hold a ribbon cutting and an artist meet-and-greet in two weeks to celebrate completion of the town’s first mural and LOVEworks sign.

Created by artist Michael Rosato, the mural located at 621 Main Street brings to life key moments and landmarks from West Point’s past and present from historic buildings to scenes of river life and local traditions like Crab Carnival.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Set against the backdrop of the West Point water tower and surrounded by a welcoming gazebo and benches, the site is designed as a gathering space where residents and visitors can relax and take in the mural’s rich visuals, according to the release.

This project to spark tourism and celebrate hometown pride resulted from a community partnership—a private business (Integrity Food Group), the West Point Chamber of Commerce, and the Town of West Point, the release said. It also marks the debut of West Point’s LOVEworks sign, part of the statewide Virginia is for Lovers campaign.

Rosato also created the Main Street T.C. Walker mural in Gloucester, on the Art Works building next to Fairfield’s Center for Archeology, Preservation and Education (CAPE).
