The West Point High School Music and Drama departments will present the musical “Fiddler on the Roof” Thursday, March 12, through Saturday, March 14.
“Fiddler on the Roof” (winner of nine Tony Awards) tells the story of Tevye, a poor milkman, his wife and his five daughters in the little village of Anatevka, in Russia. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill within them the traditional values in the face of changing social mores and growing antisemitism in Czarist Russia.
The teenaged cast members have been rehearsing and sharpening their skills from singing, dancing and acting to providing special lighting and sound for the production. With musical accompaniment from the live orchestra, hard-working backstage crews, tech lighting and sound crews, to painting and building the set, there are many students involved in this project.
The show is under the direction of Beverly Hammond with Tyler Zaprazny directing the orchestra, Clyve Agcanas directing the music, and choreography by Kirsten Palfrey and Kalleigh Sharpe.
Performances will be at school’s W.T. Robinson/Sture G. Olsson Auditorium at 1040 Thompson Avenue on Thursday, March 12, Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14, beginning at 7 o’clock each evening.
Tickets can be ordered by contacting 804-512-9286, wsheffield@wpschools.net, 804-695-4659, or Hammond at 804-370-4006 or dramadivabev@gmail.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.
