Ware students working on community service projects

Ware Academy students have been busy with some community service projects this winter, giving them opportunities to build character.

“Developing a child’s character continues to be an important part of a Ware Academy education,” said Head of School Dawn Fleet.

In February, Ware’s eighth grade students delivered 3,000 pounds of good to the Bread for Life food pantry as part of a school-wide community service project. This year’s donation was the biggest in history for the school, and a Bread for Life volunteer said that Ware’s contributions would make a significant difference for area families.

Ware’s SCA advisor Tracy Pausic coordinated a special care package project for the sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Included in the box were over 100 cards made by Ware students thanking the sailors for their service, along with non-perishable snacks to brighten the sailors’ holiday.

Lori Goings, Ware’s kindergarten teacher, spearheaded a school-wide letter writing campaign for children in St. Noah School, which teaches four villages in a remote section of Uganda.

The school houses over 250 students ages two to 11. Ware students either wrote to children as a class or individually. The letters welcomed the students back for the reopening of the school year in February.

In February, Ware students made Valentine’s Day cards and included them in care packages to soldiers in Afghanistan. Many Ware parents have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. The students showed their patriotism and their respect for the sacrifices that these individuals are making for our country’s freedom.
