VSBA Student Art Contest

Each spring at the Virginia School Boards Association’s Regional Spring Networking Forums, an art contest is held to showcase art from the region. Each division submits an elementary, middle and high school entry. Selected to represent Mathews County this year were fourth grader Avelia Payne, seventh grader Savannah Bass and senior Jordan Hunley. The students and their entries were recognized at the April 19 Mathews School Board meeting. Payne, at left, was the only artist in attendance. The division’s art teachers—Joy Tucker, Katie Witowski and Rachel Morris—were in attendance at the April 19 Mathews School Board meeting, along with Payne. The other two artists were not in attendance. Hunley’s entry, “Pots ‘n’ Pearls,” took third place in the high school category.
