Marion Randall was named the 2025 Retired Educator of the Year by the Gloucester Retired Educators Association on June 26. She was honored during a luncheon at the Gloucester Disabled American Veterans building on Professional Drive.
Honorees are chosen for this award each year based on their dedication to GREA, commitment to helping young people in the community and their contributions to the community.
Randall began her 30-year career with Gloucester County Public Schools as a Head Start aide and reading assistant at Abingdon Elementary School. After completing coursework at Norfolk State, James Madison and Hampton universities, Randall became a classroom teacher for elementary-aged students. During the summers, she taught the “Wonders of Water” science classes for children through the Guinea Heritage Association. Randall was selected as a GCPS Teacher of the Year in 2001.
In her community, Randall has held leadership roles with many organizations including the Abingdon PTA, GREA, National Association of University Women, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, First Baptist Church, and others. She was also selected as grand marshal for the 2005 Guinea Jubilee parade.
Randall also volunteers with many local organizations including the Irene Morgan Scholarship Organization, the Gloucester Legacy Committee, Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation and more.
This is the second time Randall has been selected as the GREA Retired Educator of the Year. She received the honor for the first time in 2005.
